On 3rd November, Chinese Ambassador to Zambia H.E.Mr.Yang Youming and his wife Mrs. Geng Hailing attended the memorial service for the three Chinese nationals, Wang Hui, Wang Gang and Yu Xiaobing, who were brutally murdered in a robbery happened on October 26th, together with Her Excellency Mrs. Esther Lungu, First Lady of Zambia, Mrs. Katema, wife of Minister of Chiefs and Traditional Affairs, Mrs. Musenge, wife of Minister of Copperbelt, Mr. Chanda Kabwe, District Commissioner of Kitwe and over 200 representatives of Chinese community and enterprises.

Ambassador Yang gives his message of condolence

In his message, Ambassador Yang expressed his deep condolence and sincere sympathy to the family members of the three victims and the wounded, thanked the Chinese community and relevant enterprises for their contribution to the handling of the aftermath. Ambassador Yang said that the victims had travelled thousands of miles to Zambia, they may not have done something big but had indeed made their humble contribution to the development and progress of Zambia. They should have been respected and recognized. And they should have deserved better. Condemning the criminals for their brutal and gruesome way of murdering, Ambassador Yang said the Chinese Embassy learned with great shock and took actions immediately. The Embassy coordinated the response of the aftermath quickly and lodged solemn representations to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Police Headquarters of Zambia, urging the Zambian side to take prompt measures to bring the culprits to book so as to console the dead and wounded. Ambassador Yang said that President Lungu attached great importance to the case and had directed relevant government departments to make every effort to investigate the robbery case and take effective measures to protect the life and property of Chinese nationals in Zambia. Ambassador Yang also urged the Chinese community not to lose confidence and turn sadness into strength, so as to make more contribution to the great cause of China-Zambia friendly cooperation.

Message of condolence by Her Excellency Mrs. Lungu

While delivering her message, Her Excellency Mrs. Lungu conveyed the condolence and sympathy from H.E. President Lungu to the Chinese Embassy and the family members of the victims. Mrs. Lungu said the Zambian government would investigate the robbery thoroughly, bring the culprits to book quickly and take every measure possible to protect the Chinese nationals in Zambia. Mrs. Lungu regretted the robbery, condemned the brutal murder case committed by certain Zambians. She said that there would be no such development in Zambia without the help from China, the Zambian government and people are always grateful for the contribution made by the Chinese government and people. She appealed to the Chinese community that the robbery is an isolated case which should not affect the bilateral friendship and cooperation.
