On May 4, Ambassador Du Xiaohui met with His Honourable Minister of Green Economy and Environment of Zambia Mr. Collins Nzovu, and exchanged views on deepening the "all-weather, all-dimensional, high-quality" cooperation between China and Zambia and promoting the green economic development of Zambia.
Ambassador Du said that China-Zambia practical cooperation has characteristics of continuity and opportunity. The first is continuity. The all-weather friendship between China and Zambia built by the founding fathers of the two countries has shown strong vitality. The successful telephone conversation between the two heads of state last year further provided strong political guidance for bilateral practical cooperation. China-Zambia relations have made new progress in many fields. The second is opportunity. China is willing to work with Zambia to further deepen China-Zambia "all-weather, all-dimensional, high-quality" cooperation and promote the green development of Zambia's economy. I would like to put forward five proposals: First, use the platform of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) to jointly implement the green development program of the "Nine Programs". Second, establish a new mechanism for green cooperation to jointly promote China-Zambia green cooperation. Third, deepen green energy cooperation and further strengthen development cooperation in green energy fields such as photovoltaics and hydropower. Fourth, strengthen environmental protection, explore cooperation between China and Zambia in the field of circular economy, and jointly guide Chinese enterprises in Zambia to do their best in environmental protection from the perspective of attracting more Chinese investment. Fifth, enhance capacity building, strengthen the exchange of experience in the field of green development between the two sides, learn from each other, and develop together.
Honourable Minister Nzovu said that the friendship between Zambia and China has a profound historical foundation, and the two sides have cooperated closely in various fields such as politics, economy and culture and achieved fruitful results. The Zambian side thanks China for its support for Zambia’s economic and social development, and hopes that the two sides can further deepen cooperation in jointly addressing climate change, enhancing value addition for Zambia’s industries, promoting Zambia’s clean energy development, and strengthening green development capacity building, so as to jointly promote green and sustainable development of Zambia’s economy.
Zambian media asked questions on the spot. Ambassador Du said that protecting the environment is an essential part of deepening the "High-quality" cooperation between China and Zambia.
