Ambassador Du Xiaohui Visits Central Province

On 10th May, Mr. Du Xiaohui, Chinese Ambassador to Zambia, visited Central Province of Zambia. He met with Hon. Credo Nanjuwa, the Provincial Minister, attended the launching ceremony of the "Chinese Ambassador Scholarship" and visited the Zambia Jiangxi Economic Cooperation Zone (JXECZ).

Ambassador Du said during his meeting with Hon. Nanjuwa that Central Province, located in the center of Zambia, enjoys distinct geographical advantages, good industrial foundation such as mining and agriculture, and great development potential. Central Province is the epitome of the all-weather friendship between China and Zambia. The TAZARA built with Chinese assistance starts from here, the Lusaka-Ndola Road that Chinese enterprises will soon participate in upgrading will pass through here, and the JXECZ, which is being built with Chinese investment, will soon be put into operation. The two sides should expand and deepen cooperation in various fields in the spirit of mutual respect, mutual benefit and common development.


Hon. Nanjwa welcomed Ambassador Du's visit and said that Zambia-China relations ushered in new opportunities under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state. The Central Provincial Authority attaches great importance to developing relations with China, and Chinese investors contribute a lot of tax revenue and employment to the province. The Provincial Authority is committed to attracting investment and developing economy, continuously improving the business environment, and is willing to continue to deepen cooperation with China in the fields of economy, trade, investment and local-level exchanges, so as to push forward bilateral relations to achieve more practical results.

Ambassador Du then went to Mulungushi University and signed the ”Agreement between the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the Republic of Zambia and the Mulungushi University of the Republic of Zambia on the Establishment of the ‘Chinese Ambassador Scholarship‘” with its Vice Chancellor Prof. Licy Ngambi. Ambassador Du donated books and said that the Chinese Communist Party(CPC) is leading the Chinese people in advancing the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation through a Chinese path to modernization. Education is the cornerstone of national rejuvenation. The remarkable achievements China has made in various fields of economic and social development are attributable to the importance it attaches to education. China is ready to share its own development experience, provide more scholarships and support Zambia's educational development within its capacity. Ambassador Du, when answering questions from university faculty representatives, said that he hoped the scholarship students would become lifelong ambassadors of China-Zambia friendship.

In the JXECZ, ambassador Du had a detailed understanding of the construction and operation of the cooperation zone, as well as the problems it had. The JXECZ authority was urged to advance the development of the cooperation zone with high standards and high quality on the basis of clearly defining its orientation and highlighting competitive advantages. The fruits of the development of the the JXECZ should be shared by the people of China and Zambia, making greater contribution to the steady and lasting development of the Belt and Road Initiative and China-Zambia friendship. Ambassador Du also visited and sent his respect to the frontline staff in the cooperation zone.
