Zambian First Lady Appreciates Professor Peng Liyuan’s Kindness

On 30th May 2023, the event of "Warm Children's Hearts, a China-Africa Joint Action" was held at the "Stay in School" Initiative Project Centre in Lusaka. Chinese Ambassador to Zambia, H.E. Mr. Du Xiaohui, Ms. Ellah Michelo, representative of Zambian First Lady H.E. Ms. Mutinta Hichilema, the 24th Chinese Medical Team, teachers and 50 children with autism from Chudleigh Sensory School attended the event.


On behalf of Professor Peng Liyuan, spouse of President Xi Jinping, Ambassador Du extended International Children's Day greetings to the Zambian children. He said that Prof. Peng pays close attention to the development of women and children in Africa and appreciates H.E. Ms. Mutinta Hichilema's contribution to improving the well-being of Zambian women and children. Prof. Peng and the Organization of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD) jointly initiated the action, aiming to convey warmth and care to African children, including Zambia, on the occasion of the International Children's Day, which illustrates the sincere and long-standing China-Zambia and China-Africa heading for a community of shared future. China is willing to work with Zambia to implement the consensus reached by the two heads of state, to enable the traditional China-Zambia friendship benefit the two peoples to the greatest extent.


In her written speech, Zambian First Lady H.E. Ms. Mutinta Hichilema thanked Prof. Peng for initiating the activity and China's meticulous organization and arrangement. She highly valued the precious friendship with Prof. Peng. Last year, initiated by Prof. Peng, the Chinese government donated medical supplies to Zambian women and children, providing timely assistance to Zambia in its fight against the pandemic of COVID-19. Professor Peng's initiative could not have come at a better time than this, providing assistance in helping Zambian children with specific diseases. It is expected that the two countries will continue to strengthen women and children care, medical and health cooperation in the future to benefit the people.

During the event, the Chinese Medical Team conducted free physical examination and donated "care packages" with bags, stationery and medicines to the Zambian children. The Chinese Embassy in Zambia made a special contribution to the "Stay in School" project initiated by H.E. Ms. Mutinta Hichilema. Zambian teachers and students expressed their heartfelt thanks for China's kindness.
