Ambassador Han Jing Briefs on the 2024 FOCAC Summit

On September 11, Ambassador Han Jing held a press briefing on the 2024 Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) and President Hakainde Hichilema’s working visit to China. Representatives from 16 Zambian media houses including the Zambia News and Information Services and Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation attended.

Ambassador Han said that the just-concluded FOCAC Summit was a full success, highlighting the Global South moment of the joint China-Africa pursuit of a community with a shared future for mankind. The Summit announced that the overall China-Africa relations were elevated to an all-weather community with a shared future for the new era, put forward a six-point proposition and ten partnership initiatives on China-Africa joint efforts to advance modernization, and formulated a road map for cooperation in the next stage. During the Summit, the two sides exchanged views on the international landscape and global governance, agreed to firmly support each other on issues involving their respective core interests, defend the common interests of the developing world and promote international fairness and justice, implement the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative and the Global Civilization Initiative and ensure that all will benefit from the modernization process.

Ambassador Han said that President Hichilema’s visit to China is another milestone in the bilateral relations. The two Heads of State held a bilateral meeting, exchanged views on China-Zambia relations and reached important consensus. The two sides achieved fruitful results in their cooperation in such fields as energy, infrastructure, agriculture, mining, health, etc., which will help Zambia meet the current challenges and unlock its development potential.

Ambassador Han also answered questions on the priority areas of China-Zambia cooperation, the revitalization of the TAZARA Railway and so on.
