On 7 May, Ambassador Han Jing attended the opening ceremony of the Huawei ICT Congress 2025 in Lusaka, Minister of Science and Technology of Zambia Mutati and Huawei's regional head for Southern Africa also attended and delivered a speech respectively.
Ambassador Han noted that information and communication is an important sector of China-Zambia pragmatic cooperation. The Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Co-operation (FOCAC) held last year put forward the Ten Partnership Actions, including digital technology co-operation. China will continue to encourage Huawei and other enterprises to actively participate in Zambia's development in the field of information and communications, so as to deepen the China-Zambia comprehensive strategic partnership and benefit the two peoples continuously.
Mutati noted that the Zambian government attaches great importance to the development of the information and communications industry, and continues to promote economic and social development by upgrading the construction of network communications, big data application, AI technology and other aspects. Zambia appreciate Huawei for its active participation in projects such as Smart Village and help to improve the education level in rural areas of Zambia, and hope to continuously strengthen cooperation with Chinese enterprises to jointly realize the goal of ‘Zambia 2030 Vision’.
After the opening ceremony, Ambassador Han Jing and Minister Mutati toured the Huawei Communications Technology Exhibition. Under the theme of ‘Accelerating Zambia's Intelligence’, the ICT Congress exhibited the latest communications technologies and invited the government, industry and research institutions to discuss the application of cloud computing, artificial intelligence and other cutting-edge technologies in Zambia.
