On 10th April, Ambassador DU Xiaohui presided over Opening Ceremony of the 2023 Short-term Training Programs for Zambia. Ms. Lillian M. Kapusana, Permanent Secretary to the Office of Vice President of Zambia, attended the ceremony.

The bilateral short-term training program, named the Seminar On Leadership Development for Zambia, will be held from 14th to 28th April in Zhejiang province, which will be the first physical one hosted by China for Zambia after the pandemic of Covid-19. The seminar consists of lectures, case studies, cultural experiences, visits to educational institutions, and field trips. Experts and scholars in the field of leadership development will be invited to give lectures on various topics such as China’s national conditions, China's Reform and Opening up as well as experience in economic development, modernization of China's government structure and governance capabilities.

Ms. Kapusana said that the long-lasting Zambia-China friendly cooperation were initiated by the founding fathers, Dr. Kenneth Kaunda and Chairman Mao, which calls for our joint efforts to protect. China has risen as a world power, which is a clear testimony and a shining example of what good leadership, good organization and hard work could achieve. This important training program will provide us an opportunity to learn a lot from the Chinese development model to improve Zambia's economy.

Ambassador Du said that as a part of the China-Zambia relations, the human resource training cooperation shows three main "all" features.

First, it benefits people from all professions. In the past 10 years, more than 6,000 Zambians have been trained in three types of programs provided by China, namely, the Multilateral Training Program, the Bilateral Training Program and the MOFCOM Degree Education Program. The programs have invited people from various fields, including officials and technical staff from relevant government departments and institutions, professors and faculty members of Zambian universities, doctors, journalists, and experts from think tanks and research institutes.

Second, it covers all fields. Our training programs cover agriculture, health, energy, mining, infrastructure, trade, tourism and other areas, dedicated to turning Zambia’s strength in human resources into competitiveness in economic development, so as to bring more benefits to the people of Zambia.

Third, it covers all types. Due to the pandemic, China has launched numbers of online training courses over the past 3 years. This year, with the adjustment of COVID prevention measures, we have fully resumed the offline short-term training programs and diploma and degree education programs in China. Now all types of training programs are available, including online and offline, multilateral and bilateral, short-term training programs and degree education programs.

Ambassador Du said that the China-Zambia human resources training cooperation is a vivid reflection of the guiding principles of China's policy toward Africa put forward by President Xi Jinping 10 years ago, namely sincerity, real results, amity and good faith, and the concept of pursuing the greater good and shared interests. "The greatest good" in China-Africa relations is to empower Africa's development with China's development to realize mutual benefit and common development. "Sincerity" means equality and mutual trust, solidarity and mutual assistance. China will always remain a reliable friend and sincere partner of Zambia. "Real results" means practical and efficient cooperation for win-win outcomes. China will always deliver on its promises. "Amity" means people-to-people friendship and harmonious coexistence. China-Zambia training cooperation emphasizes closer people-to-people ties, actively promotes youth exchanges, and enhances the communication between hearts and minds, as well as policy alignment. "Good faith" means that we treat each other with honesty and handle matters properly, consider and advance our bilateral relations from a strategic and long-term perspective, and work together to create a sound environment for friendly and mutually beneficial cooperation between China and Zambia.
