On March 15, Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy, Mr. Meng Hao met with Mr. George Mudenda, Acting Director General of the National Museums Board Secretariat. The two sides exchanged views on strengthening cultural and tourism cooperation and promoting people-to-people exchanges.

Mr. Meng said that China and Zambia enjoy profound traditional friendship, which has continued to flourish and beam with new vitality. As the Railway of Freedom and Friendship, the TAZARA is worthy of commemoration by the two peoples. The TAZARA Memorial Park, jointly built by the two governments, officially opened to the public in August 2022, which fully displays the TAZARA history and promotes the TAZARA spirit. Members of the National Museums Board are welcome to visit the Memorial Park. Since March 15, China has resumed the outbound group tour to designated countries (the second batch), and Zambia is among the list, which fully reflects the great importance China attaches to the friendship between the two countries. I believe that more Chinese tourists will come to Zambia, enhancing the people-to-people bonds and promoting Zambia’s economic development.

Mr. Mudenda said that China is a sincere friend of Zambia, and the Zambian people will never forget the great sacrifices made by the Chinese people for the construction of TAZARA. It is hoped that the two countries continue to work together to achieve win-win cooperation. The National Museums Board welcomes more Chinese tourists to Zambia and will receive them warmly.

After the meeting, Mr. Meng visited the Lusaka National Museum accompanied by Dr. Bevine Mweene Sangulube, Director of the Museum.
