Chargé d'Affaires Wang Sheng Meets with Hon. V J Mwaanga, Former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Zambia

On February 20, 2024, Chargé d'Affaires Wang Sheng visited Hon. V J Mwaanga, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Zambia, during the traditional Chinese Spring Festival. 

Chargé d'Affaires Wang expressed deep gratitude to Hon. V J Mwaanga for his continuous efforts to forge China-Zambia ever-lasting friendship throughout his career. He said that 2024 marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of China-Zambia diplomatic relations. It is sincerely hoped that  Hon. V J Mwaanga, as a witness and founder of the 60 years’ All-Weather Friendship between the two countries, will make new contributions to pass on the traditional friendship from generation to generation.

Hon. V J Mwaanga fondly recalled the past stories of the profound friendship forged by the older generations of leaders of both countries. He said that during his 19-times visits to China, he has witnessed that the Chinese people, through their hard work, have successfully embarked on the Chinese path to modernization, creating miracle of rapid economic development and long-term social stability, and providing developing countries including Zambia with experience of how to realize modernization that can be drawn upon. He also said that he would be happy to make his part of contribution to the continuation of the traditional friendship between the two countries.

Hon. V J Mwaanga, as the then Permanent Representative of Zambia to the United Nations, participated in the historic process of the adoption of Resolution 2758 at the 26th session of the United Nations General Assembly, which recognized the representatives of the Government of the People’s Republic of China as “the only lawful representatives of China to the United Nations”.
