On 20 June 2024, Chargé d'Affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Zambia, Mr. Wang Sheng met with Hon. Mulambo Haimbe, the newly appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Zambia, and exchanged views on China-Zambia relations and practical cooperation.
Mr. Wang Sheng conveyed the warm congratulations of H.E. Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister of China, to Hon. Haimbe on his appointment. Mr. Wang said that under the leadership of President Xi Jinping and President Hakainde Hichilema, the political mutual trust between China and Zambia has been continuously deepened, and practical cooperation in various fields has yielded fruitful results. He thanked Hon. Haimbe for his contribution to the development of China-Zambia relations since his appointment as the acting Foreign Minister. China is willing to maintain close communication and cooperation with Zambia in bilateral cooperation and multilateral affairs, jointly prepare for the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Summit to be held this year, and hold various events to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Hon. Haimbe thanked H.E. Wang Yi for his congratulations. He said that the long-standing Zambia-China friendship has stood the test of time and grown from strength to strength, and expressed readiness to protect this important asset in his new position and make greater contribution to the development of bilateral relations. He said that Zambia appreciates the important role played by China as the largest developing country in global affairs, especially development cooperation, and looks forward to deepening communication and cooperation in practical cooperation, regional hot-spot issues and multilateral affairs.
