On July 14, the Embassy of People’s Republic of China in the Republic of Zambia and China Civil Engineering Construction (Zambia) Limited held a ceremony for the 47th Anniversary of the Commissioning of TAZARA at New Kapiri Mposi, the terminal station in Central Province of Zambia.

Ambassador Du Xiaohui said that to reactivate TAZARA, we must follow political guidance, the principles of market, and “extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits”. China would like to work with both Zambia and Tanzania to transform TAZARA into a new model of high-quality development of the “Belt and Road” and a freshen-up symbol of everlasting China-Africa friendship.

Mr. Frank Tayali, Minister of Transport and Logistics said that TAZARA is a symbol of the friendship between Zambia, China and Tanzania. The reactivation of TAZARA needs to be market-oriented, and China is expected to participate actively .

Mr. Credo Nanjuwa, Minister of the Central Province, said that TAZARA is the flagship project of Zambia-China all-weather friendship, it is highly hoped to solve the challenge of exporting commodities through the reactivation of TAZARA. The Central Province is willing to continue to strengthen practical cooperation with China.

After the ceremony, personnel from both sides took a tour on the TAZARA train for on-the -spot study.
