The Zambia Final of the "Chinese Bridge" Chinese Proficiency Competition Successfully Held

On 29th June, the Zambia Final of the 21st “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition for College Students and the 15th Competition for Foreign Secondary School Students was successfully held at the Confucius Institute of the University of Zambia(UNZA). Mr. Lai Bo, Minister Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Zambia, teachers and students of the Confucius Institute, representatives of Chinese enterprises and communities in Zambia, approximately 50 guests attended the event.

Mr. Lai said in his speech that, the spiritual connotation of the Chinese language embodies the wisdom and dreams of the Chinese nation, which is the common wealth of all mankind. The theme of “One World, One Family” comes from the pursuit for “天下大同” which means "a common world" and “以和为贵,和而不同”which means "harmony without uniformity" . It fit with the Belt and Road Initiative, Global Development Initiative and Global Security Initiative, proposed by President Xi Jinping. The world is facing drastic changes and a pandemic both unseen in a century. He hoped Chinese language lovers in Zambia will leverage their bilingual skills, and contribute their wisdom and strength to China-Zambia all-weather friendship and practical cooperation. Upholding the spirit of China-Africa friendship and cooperation, they will build a China-Africa community with a shared future in the new era, enhance the mutual trust and mutual learning, and create a better future for the world.

The competition was filled with lively and cheerful atmosphere. 15 college students and 10 secondary school students told the story of China-Zambia friendship with the theme of "One World, One Family", and showed their talents in singing, dancing, calligraphy and tongue twisters, and presented wonderful performances to the audience. In the end, Moses Mundongo from the University of Zambia and Dorothy Banda from Kasama Girls’ Secondary School won the first prize in the competition for college students and secondary school students respectively, and will represent Zambia in the finals of the "Chinese Bridge" World Chinese Proficiency Competition.
