On September 4, 2023, Ambassador Du Xiaohui met with Hon. Sylvia Masebo, Minster of Health. They exchanged views on deepening China-Zambia cooperation in the health sector.

Minister Masebo said that Zambia and China have a long-standing friendship and have conducted extensive and in-depth cooperation in the health sector since the establishment of diplomatic relations for decades. Zambia is very grateful to China for its long-term health assistance to Zambia, especially its strong support in hospital infrastructure, medical equipment, vaccines and other aspects during the COVID-19 epidemic. The Ministry of Health is committed to promoting the medical policy of combination of prevention and treatment in Zambia, and hopes that China will continue to support the development of Zambia's medical and health services and the industrialization of its medical sector.

Ambassador Du said that health cooperation is an important part of China-Zambia friendly cooperation. In the past year, China has provided Zambia with infrastructure assistance such as the Levy Mwanawasa Hospital and various anti-epidemic supplies, including COVID-19 vaccines. China has dispatched 24 batches of medical teams and 26 military medical expert teams to Zambia, with a total of 993 doctors and medical experts. China also offers thousands of human resources training opportunities. In the future, China will continue to promote bilateral health cooperation.

During the meeting, Ambassador Du listened carefully to the suggestions of a total of 20 people, including the Health adviser to the President of Zambia, the Permanent Secretary and Directors of various departments of the Ministry of Health, health officials at the provincial and district levels, as well as hospital representatives, on promoting practical health cooperation between China and Zambia.
