Ambassador Du Xiaohui and Zambian Minister of Health Masebo Attend the Ceremony of the Entry of the Chinese Medical Experts into the Temporary Cholera Treatment Center and the Donation of Medical Supplies

On 18 January 2024, Ambassador Du Xiaohui and Zambian Minister of Health Sylvia Masebo, Minister of Local Government and Rural Development Garry Nkombo jointly attended the ceremony of the entry of the Chinese medical experts into the National Heroes Stadium Temporary Cholera Treatment Center and the donation of medical supplies.

Ambassador Du said that the vision of building a community with a shared future for mankind proposed by President Xi Jinping is China’s plan for what kind of world to build and how to build it. By supporting Zambia in the fight against cholera, China takes concrete actions to build a community with a shared future for mankind, to push for joint efforts to meet global challenges and achieve common development and shared prosperity. The 10 medical experts from the 24th Chinese Medical Team and the 26th Chinese Military Medical Expert Team start their work at the National Heroes Stadium Cholera Treatment Center, while 24th Chinese Medical Team donates the first batch of medical supplies, as part of the actions to effectively and efficiently implement the consensus of our Heads of State as well as China’s nine assistance measures to help Zambia fight against cholera. The Chinese side will continue to provide assistance within its capacity to support the Zambian government and people in combating cholera.

Minister Masebo thanked President Xi Jinping, the Chinese government and people for the strong support rendered to the Zambian government and people in the fight against cholera, and said that China’s support covers short, medium and long-term measures, including dispatching medical experts, donating medical supplies, exploring the possibility of vaccine production and helping to expand water supply projects, which will help Zambia ultimately eliminate the cholera epidemic. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Zambia and China 60 years ago, China has gone beyond being a trustworthy all-weather friend to becoming brothers and sisters of Zambia who together share weal and woe. The Chinese people has contributed to the development of Zambia in various fields, including medical and health areas. The Zambian government is willing to make further efforts to deepen friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

Zhu Changju, team leader of the 24th Chinese Medical Team, Wang Shuchao, team leader of the 26th Chinese Military Medical Expert Team, and other Chinese medical experts attended the ceremony and participated in the treatment work. More than 50 reporters from the Chinese and Zambian media houses participated in the on-site reporting.
