On July 7 2026, Ambassador Han Jing attended the 50th anniversary commemoration event marking the official handover of the TAZARA Railway and delivered a speech. Mr. Fredrick Mwalusaka, Permanent Secretary of the Zambian Ministry of Transport and Logistics, as well as representatives from the Tanzanian High Commission, Tanzania-Zambia Railway Authority and China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) were present.

Ambassador Han stated that the Tanzania-Zambia Railway stands as an enduring symbol of the Chinese people’s commitment to freedom, friendship and development. For over half a century, practical collaboration between China, Zambia and Tanzania has grown from strength to strength. Under the strategic guidance of President Xi Jinping, President Hichilema and President Hassan, the revitalization of the railway will significantly boost freight capacity, reduce logistics costs and generate a large number of jobs. China stands ready to work with Zambia and Tanzania to uphold the TAZARA spirit and honour the heroes with fruitful outcomes of cooperation.

Mr. Mwalusaka expressed gratitude to the Chinese government and people, emphasizing that the TAZARA railway is a road of liberation, dignity, friendship and hope. Fifty years ago, China stood with Zambia and Tanzania to build the railway. Today, China continues to stand as a comprehensive strategic partner in the revitalization of TAZARA. This enduring friendship has become a shining example of South-South cooperation characterized by mutual respect and shared responsibility.

Ambassador Han together with representatives of Zambia and Tanzania laid a wreath at the memorial monument, paid tribute at the martyrs' cemetery and visited the TAZARA Memorial Museum.
