On 6 January 2026, Deputy Chief of Mission and Minister Counselor Mr. Wang Sheng met with Ms. Etambuyu Gundersen, Permanent Secretary for International Relations and Cooperation, and stated China’s solemn position on recent Taiwan-related issues.

Mr. Wang stated that the massive arms sale to Taiwan announced by the US government is a severe interference in China’s internal affairs and gross violation of the one-China principle and provisions of the three China-US joint communiqués, especially the August 17 Communiqué, severely undermining China’s sovereign, security and territorial integrity, and jeopardizing the peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait. The Chinese side firmly opposes and strongly condemns such moves.
Mr. Wang also urged the Japanese side to abide by the relevant political documents between China and Japan, retract the erroneous remarks made by Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi and respect the historical and legal fact that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China.
Ms. Gundersen reaffirmed Zambia’s commitment to the one-China principle, emphasized that Zambia adheres to a foreign policy based on the principles of territorial integrity and non-interference in internal affairs, and supports China’s efforts to safeguard its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The Minister Counselor and the Permanent Secretary also exchanged views on the bilateral relations and other issues of mutual interest.
