On 15 January 2026, Chargé d’Affaires Wang Sheng, met with Hon. Situmbeko Musokotwane, Minister of Finance and National Planning of Zambia, to exchange views on further strengthening practical cooperation in the financial sector.

Chargé d'Affaires Wang conveyed New Year greetings to Hon. Minister Musokotwane and spoke highly of his instrumental role in advancing the use of RMB for tax payments in Zambia. Wang noted that this move represents not only a groundbreaking step in the internationalization of the RMB, but also a significant milestone in financial cooperation between China and Zambia. China looks forward to further deepening collaboration with Zambia in areas such as cross-border investment and financing facilitation as well as financial support for key projects, so as to steadily advance practical cooperation and bring bilateral relations to a higher and deeper level.

Minister Musokotwane expressed gratitude for the Chinese government’s longstanding support across various sectors in Zambia and praised the achievements that Zambia and China have made in expanding RMB application. Zambia stands ready to strengthen financial dialogue and coordination with China, actively deliver the consensus reached by the two heads of state, continuously improve the investment climate and jointly pursue mutual benefits and shared development.
